Simpsons: Outrage!

So if people have been keeping track on this blog, they may see the trend that the games I play are titles I’ve never played before. The same people who are keeping track of my blog may also be outraged by the fact that I’ve never played Simpsons: Road Rage.

The reason I’ve avoided this game for so long comes down to two reasons. The first reason being that I’m not a big fan of the Simpsons. Since living with Chloe I’ve come to appreciate it a bit better as it’s on the TV nearly every evening before bed (and also because she won’t shut up about steamed dammit hams!) the jokes never really resonated with me as a child.

The second reason I’ve avoided it is down to the fact it looked like a crazy taxi spoof, in the same vein that Simpsons Hit & Run was a spoof of grand theft auto. I’m a big fan of the first crazy taxi, i spent nearly £50 on an arcade version of it when I was younger.

After lots of pondering of what to play next, i decided to bite the bullet and give it a go. The first thing that happened was Chloe saw me starting it up, grabbed a controller and we went against each other in head to head mode. Turns out she was pretty damn good at it from playing it about a decade ago. I still won.

After this, i moved onto the mission stages. I felt if i could give them a go it would give me a good feel for the game. The first one involved driving around as willie smashing mailboxes to annoy Mr burns. The issue with this was the mailboxes weren’t very clear to see, and i kept missing them. I cant put this down to the low resolution of being a PS2 game because i was playing on the PS3, with its upscaling wizardry.

I hopped into the road rage mode next which seemed like the main mode. After cranking the difficulty up too high (I’m quite cocky sometimes) i slammed the accelerator and went for it.

I came second on my first try.

I gave it another go.

I came first on my second try.

I felt the difficulty could have been harder. One of the reasons i enjoyed crazy taxi was how hard it actually was. Road Rage was missing all the tricks like the quick burn accelerating that the original game had.

Overall it’s a fun experience. I think the head to head mode was my favourite to do. Chloe and I get very competitive over games, mainly Tetris. Maybe one-day ill upload a video of us playing it and shouting abuse at each other.
