Don’t go Quantum Breaking my heart

Time travel is a very difficult thing to do right. A lot of types of media always seem to balls it up. A good example is Bill and Ted. How in gods name did they manage to get all of these famous people from the past and bring them forward in time to do an essay. Stupid

Quantum Break is a concoction of a game and a TV series. As you play through the game you get to make choices that show the TV Show part of it differently depending on the playstyle. Its a really cool concept that I thoroughly enjoyed. The game takes place in the year 2016. Little finger has stopped trying to do it with Sansa and has decided to build a time machine. He asks Iceman from the X-Men to come and help him turn it on for the first time. After he turns it on, however, Merry from Lord of the Rings bursts onto the scene to try and stop him, as the time machine kinda breaks time.

The point I’m trying to make here is that the facial scanning techniques they used for this game are second to none. It comes to something when Chloe is sat next to me and says “why is Little Finger in the game” to prove my point. This links really well with the live action scenes because they blend together really nicely.

The game plays very similarly to uncharted. Throughout the whole game, I felt like it was running in a very similar engine. The only difference I felt was the introduction of abilities. Time-based abilities. They start out quite simple. The first one you unlock is the ability to scan the surroundings. I don’t see how its based on time travel, but at this point in the game, you don’t really ask questions. As the game goes on you start to gain more powers. My favourite one means I can be Barry Allen, the fastest thing alive! (damn this has made me realise I’ve never played a flash game. I need a flash game!)

The tv show bits are fantastic. They show a window into what is happening in the game’s story behind the scenes. A few times it crosses over perfectly with the game, but mostly follows 3 characters. Liam Burke – a security guard on steroids. “Charlie,” a computer security analyst who cant flirt his way out of a paper bag and Fiona, who doesn’t really do much, to be honest.

The only thing I wanted more of was some information about Martin Hatch. It hints that there is more to him than meets the eye. I’m not going to go into details but it feels like they left the game open for a really deep sequel.

Overall it was a very cool game. It really tickled the sci-fi itch that I’ve had for a while and also played really well. It was a bit paradoxy in places but time travel is a very difficult thing to do right. A Lot of types of media always seem to balls it up. A good example is Bill and Ted. How in gods name did they manage to get all of these famous people from the past and bring them forward in time to do an essay. Stupid
